“Absolutely beautiful!”

“Steel City Choristers has rapidly developed very high standards…the musical education is excellent …I commend them without reservation.”

Steel City Choristers is a charity in Sheffield that believes in the power of music to change lives! We make high quality choral music more accessible and relevant so that more people can experience its beauty and enjoy its benefits.
We train boys and girls aged 6-18 to sing alongside experienced adults in the cathedral tradition. We collaborate with a wide range of partners to co-create opportunities to sing. Sacred music makes up the majority of our repertoire, and church services the majority of our performances, but we also sing a variety of other music and at range of other events.
Our story is told by Classical Music magazine.
“So many people were impressed with the quality and tone of your music. It is a phenomenal achievement to produce the standard of music you did, which was on a par with cathedral standards without the resources usually associated with a cathedral music foundation. You are all to be congratulated on the work that has been put in to create a choir that has professional standards and with all choir members seeming to enjoy the experience so much.”
Revd Canon Michael Gisbourne, Canon Precentor, Ripon Cathedral

We offer children aged 6-18 a fun and rewarding musical education, training them to sing to the highest musical standards in the cathedral tradition alongside experienced adult singers.
We will be holding auditions in January 2025 at St John’s church, Owlerton, for children in Y2 – Y13 and for adult singers who can sight read. We are particularly looking for children who already sing in a choir and want to take their singing on further, boys of any age and adult basses.

Residential at Winchester Cathedral – October 2024
We had a fantastic time away last week singing Evensong every day at Winchester Cathedral. We stayed at Lyons Copse Scout Centre and enjoyed outings around Winchester, to the science museum, and to the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth. On our last evening we had a campfire in the woods.
