The power of music

For centuries, choral music has been inspiring a sense of awe and wonder, helping people to step back from the detail to see the bigger picture and imagine a better future.

Music helps us tap into something deeper by creating the space away from our rational thoughts to make emotional connection with what really matters.

So, it is no wonder that music is at the heart of every great event, helping to mark the occasion, set the tone and communicate key messages.

Please contact us if you’d like to talk about us coming to sing for your community or business event.

Marking the moment

Big moments in both our personal and our shared community life deserve to be called out and recognised with suitable celebration or reflection.

Steel City Choristers has

  • sung carols for the Cutlers’ Company family Christmas party
  • delivered a Lament event for Sheffield City Council to help people process their feelings of grief and loss in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic
  • sung Bach’s St John Passion with the English Touring Opera in Firth Hall for Holy Week
  • joined with the choir of Doncaster Minister to sing a special service to mark the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne
  • formed part of the choir singing at Sheffield’s official commemoration at St Matthew’s Carver Street of the life of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
  • sung for the 60th birthday celebration of Olayinka Fadahunsi-Oluwole in Cutlers’ Hall
  • sung for a special service of celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of an ordination.

Inspiring the next generation

Steel City Choristers has performed at a number of events organised by the Work-Wise Foundation to inspire and attract children to consider careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Our singing has helped bring a sense of calm and composure to 600 school children who had just arrived from across the region for the North Star event at Gulliver’s Valley. We sang about the wonder of the natural world to help inspire the next generation of STEM professionals to protect the environment and combat climate change. We have also performed ‘Fly me to the moon’ and ‘Mr Blue Sky’ as an introduction to Professor Brian Cox speaking passionately about the wonders of space.

“After the chaos of everyone arriving, that was exactly what we needed. I feel nice and calm.”
Ruth Amos, ‘Kids Invent Stuff’ YouTuber

    “Absolutely beautiful!”
    Professor Brian Cox
